What is RS-232C?
Answer
"RS" is the acronym for "Recommended Standard." RS-232C is the standard for serial communications set by the Electronics Industry Association (EIA).
RS-232C communications use 25-pin D-sub or 9-pin D-sub connectors.
The ratings specify the purpose and timing of all 25 signal lines but, in practice, most device connections only use a few of these signal lines.
(Because RS-232C is used for serial communications, only one line is used to send data.)
In 1994, the formal name of TIA/EIA-232-E was set for this standard but most people still refer to it in general as the RS-232C Standard.
