Term : proportional band

What is 'proportional band'? What does 'proportional band' mean?

Definition

The band in which the manipulated variable is proportional to the deviation between the process value and the set value. The proportional band is given in industrial units or as a percentage of the input range. If the proportional band is increased, the change in the manipulated variable will be smaller for a change in the deviation. If the proportional band is decreased, the change in the manipulated variable will be larger.
