What is 'absolute'? What does 'absolute' mean?
A type of rotary encoder that outputs an absolute position (i.e., the current angle) instead of a relative angle (i.e., the change in the angle) for the angle of rotation. This term is generally used for an absolute encoder that outputs only the angle in one rotation. An absolute encoder that also outputs the number of rotations is called a multi-turn absolute encoder.
