What is 'multi-turn absolute'? What does 'multi-turn absolute' mean?

Definition

A type of rotary encoder that provides information on the accumulated position for more than one rotation (i.e., the number of turns). A counter that is built into the encoder counts one of the absolute signals for one turn to count the number of rotations. This value is output as the multi-turn data in the absolute position code.
