            - In high-rise buildings and apartments, water is pumped up from ground tanks to elevated tanks. If the ground tanks run out of water and the pump is still operating, the pumps starts pumping air and overheats the motors, potentially causing a burnout. To prevent this from happening, the pumps are stopped once the water drops below a certain level.
