Question
What are the selection criteria for optical fiber?
Answer
The optimum Optical Fibers for OMRON Optical Link Modules are listed below.
Optical Fibers | Type | Model |
H-PCF | General-purpose Cables | Z3F2-4D[]M ([] = 1, 5, 10, 20, 30, 50, 100, 200, 500) |
Reinforced Cables | Z3F2-42D[]M ([] = 10, 20, 30, 50, 100, 200, 400, 500, 1000) |
Note:The number that replaces the box in the model number is the fiber length in meters.
Choose either General-purpose or Reinforced cable based on the operating environment.
General-purpose Cables | Select a cost-efficient General-purpose Cable for comparatively short distances, e.g., inside devices and in laboratories, where there is no mechanical or environment stress on the optical fiber. |
Reinforced Cables | Select a Reinforced Cable for indoor applications such as floor or conduit wiring, where mechanical stress may be applied. Also use for longer distances of 50 m or more, when there will be tension on the cable, and for outdoor fiber installation. The outer layer does not have long-term water resistance, however, so always provide protection from water and other liquids by laying the cable within electrical conduits. (Optical fiber can withstand temporary moisture but transmission losses will increase and performance will deteriorate if the optical fiber is left sitting in water for an extended period.) |
