Question

What kind of transmission is an optical transmission?

Answer

Data is generally sent as electrical signals along a wire. In optical transmission, these electrical signals are converted and transmitted as flashes of light. The received light flashes are then returned to electrical signals.

Normally, an Optical Link Module is used for the optical/electrical signal conversion and Optical Fiber is used as the transmission medium.
